COME! THERE IS REST FOR YOU

Today’s Scripture: Matthew 11:28

Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Life places on each of us a heavy burden. The burden of meeting our basic needs, sustaining our dependents, finding happiness in all our relationships, living a significant life etc. can sometimes be frustrating to bear all alone. In fact, many buckle under the strain. Nevertheless, there is a promise of rest, an alleviation of the burden life throws on us. The only thing we need to do is…come!

Speaking to a group of people accustomed to bearing heavy moral burdens, Jesus made a profound call, “Come unto me all you who labour and are heavy laden…and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). God throws a similar invitation, speaking through Isaiah the prophet, Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come; buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labour on what does not satisfy?(Isaiah 55:1-2a NIV)

God offers to satisfy your needs despite your physical limitations and provide an alternative to the tireless labours that leave you drained yet unsatisfied. He gives an open invitation: Come! No preconditions, just a simple invitation, come! You can come to Him today through the vehicle of prayer and turn over your burdens to Him. You can come to God by picking up His Word, and find working solutions for your problems. Whichever way you come, come trusting, for “he that comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6). Today, this week, God is giving you an open invitation to come. He does not promise temporary, but permanent rest. Come to Him. Lay your problems at His feet, and rest. He will satisfy your needs, in Jesus’ name.

Memorize & Meditate:

“Ho! Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price… Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, and let your soul delight itself in abundance. Incline your ear, and come to Me.” Isaiah 55:1-3

Prayer/Confession:

Father, I come to You today confident in Your love for me and in Your ability to give me rest. I delight myself in Your Word and will not be weary, in Jesus’ name.
