RISING TO THE OCCASION

Today’s scripture: Ecclesiastes 9:10a

Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might….

When Dave Thomas died in 2002, he left behind more than just thousands of Wendy’s restaurants. He also left a legacy of being a practical, hardworking man, who was respected for his down-to-earth values. Among the pieces of good advice that have outlived the smiling entrepreneur is his view of what Christians should be doing with their lives. Thomas, who as a youngster was influenced for Christ by his grandmother, said that Christians should “roll up their shirt sleeves and see Christianity as faith and action.”

At no time has the demand for new, sustainable wealth-creating business ventures been louder than it is today. With the ever-increasing rate of unemployment, and the attendant social consequences, there is a need for more people to rise up to the occasion and fill in the gap. No specie of people is more equipped to do this than Christians. Creating wealth has always been a matter of identifying problems within society and coming up with innovative solutions to them.

The Bible tells us that Jesus has become to us the Wisdom of God and that wisdom has the capacity to find out the knowledge of witty inventions. The time has come for us to move from being just consumers of goods and services to producers and creators of wealth. We have the Spirit of God. We have the Wisdom of God. The time has come for us to put concrete work to our faith; to launch out into the deep with the wealth creation ideas God has birthed in our hearts. We can dominate the marketplace. We can create wealth and create jobs. The world will amass and keep, but we will create and spread to others. God is waiting for us to step up to the plate.

Interestingly, we have a helper who can teach us how to put the Word of God to work – the Holy Spirit. God is committed to prospering the work of your hands. Plan your work. Flesh out your idea. Launch out. The Lord will bless you with abundance, and the world will be a better place, in Jesus’ name.

Memorise & Meditate:

“And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth; that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers.” Deuteronomy 8:18

Prayer/Confession

Father, I thank You for the rich measure of Your grace upon my life. This grace has given me unusual favour in the marketplace and I have gained leverage among my peers and contemporaries. I prosper in the works of my hands; I continually bear much fruit in Jesus’ name. Amen.
