ONLY THE TRUTH SHALL SET YOU FREE

Today’s Scripture: John 8:32

And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Few thinkers influenced the modern concept of law, order and freedom like the Roman Senator and philosopher, Marcus Cicero. His ideas on justice, law and freedom still merit consideration over two millennia after his passing. And here is one of his most profound notions on freedom: “We are in bondage to the law in order that we may be free.”

Cicero strikes a chord that rings particularly true for people seeking total freedom, which only Christ can give. To walk in the freedom Christ has bought us, we must subject ourselves to His Law, to His Word. For it is the truth, and the only truth, that has the capacity to set and keep us free.

What is the truth? Jesus said: “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth” (John 17:17). The Word of God is truth. And it is in binding it to our hearts through study and meditation that we find and walk in freedom. For a people born into the bondage of sin, and accustomed to being prisoners of our own fears and lusts, we need the Word of God to renew our minds and regulate our behaviour as free citizens of the universe, with dominion over creation, empowered to trample upon snakes and scorpions and all the wiles of the enemy. So in the words of Cicero, we are in bondage to the Word of God in order that we may be free.

I see you walking in freedom today and always. You have embraced the Word of God. It has set you free. You will remain free, in Jesus’ name. Nothing will be able to hold you back. You will walk upon your high places. Leave home with the Word of God in your heart and a spring in your step today. The truth has set you free.

Prayer & Confession:

I embrace Your Word as truth today, Lord. I bind it upon my heart. I make a commitment to study and meditate on it always. Thank You for setting me free. I walk in freedom, in Jesus’ name.
