ONE DAY AT A TIME

Today’s Scripture: Psalm 84:7

They go from strength to strength;
Each one appears before God in Zion.

A lady who desired to lead a Christian life felt she had a challenge with her attitude that was difficult to give up, and so decided to go seek counsel from her pastor. When she consulted the pastor, he said: “Have you noticed that there are always a few dead leaves clinging to the old oak trees after all the other leaves have fallen? The strong blasts of winter fail to tear them off. Spring comes, and still they cling persistently.

The days are calm, bright, and balmy. Then one by one they drop off. What unseen power so quietly, but so surely severs them? The new life rising in the tree gradually causes them to drop off. And so with us, – as the new life in Christ permeates our being, we find that we can give up for Him what before was so hard to renounce.”

Our attitude is built one day at a time. Nothing enduring happens suddenly. You do not suddenly become a great person: husband, wife, parent, or friend, neither do you suddenly become the great leader of an organisation or nation, neither do you suddenly wake up having a great attitude. You build it one day at a time; one moment after another, even as you allow the life of Christ to flow in you.

Each moment presents us with an opportunity to conquer fear and master faith, to exercise love or embrace hate, to overlook a hurt or to allow the festering of bitterness, to permit pessimism or to nurture enthusiasm; each moment presents us with an opportunity to build the right attitude. So make a fresh commitment to strengthen the muscles of a positive attitude each moment of today. You have the fruit of the Spirit. You are not grouchy, bitter, spiteful or pessimistic. You have faith, love, hope, patience, faithfulness, joy, etc. Christ lives in you. As you make a commitment today to live from inside-out, the old habits that once held you down will begin to fall off. Nurture the life of Christ in you, moment by moment, day by day, and you will see yourself developing an irresistible attitude. The Lord will help you today and always, in Jesus’ name.

Memorise & Meditate:

“But the path of the just is like the shining sun, That shines ever brighter unto the perfect day.” Proverbs 4:18

Prayer & Confession:

Lord, I thank You because You have given me the grace to live all of my moments to your glory. I grow in wisdom and in stature today. I am better today than I was yesterday. I will get yet better tomorrow. The life I live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God who died for me. I have a good attitude today; I am victorious today, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
