Pastor Toluwani Odukoya @ Sunday service
At the October 25 Sunday service, Associate Senior Pastor Toluwani Odukoya, during her message titled The Storms of Life, explored how believers can navigate the inevitable challenges of life, emphasising that storms are not merely obstacles but opportunities for spiritual growth, character development and deepening faith.
She explained that everyone is either coming out of a storm, going through one or about to enter one, underscoring the importance of remaining spiritually alert and attentive to God’s voice during difficult seasons. She referenced the account of Jesus walking on water and Peter stepping out in faith, recorded in Matthew 14:22–33, to illustrate the importance of keeping one’s eyes on Jesus amid fear and uncertainty.
Drawing from the book Created to Hear God by Havilah Cunnington, Pastor Toluwani highlighted four ways God communicates with believers: as Hearers, through words; Seers, through visions and dreams; Feelers, through emotions and internal sensations; and Knowers, through a deep inner conviction of God’s will. She encouraged the congregation to understand how God speaks to them personally and remain attentive to His guidance, particularly during difficult seasons.
Pastor Toluwani outlined practical steps for navigating life’s storms: hearing God for oneself, keeping one’s eyes on Jesus and His promises, and anchoring in God’s Word by meditating on specific scriptures. Referencing Jeremiah 9:24, she encouraged believers to boast in their knowledge and understanding of the Lord. She also cited Jeremiah 33:3, reminding the congregation of God’s promise to answer when they call upon Him.
Finally, drawing from Isaiah 43:1–4 (The Message), she reassured believers of God’s redemptive presence and care when they find themselves in rough waters. She also referenced the account of Jesus calming the storm in Mark 4:35–41, declaring that every storm must yield to the authority of the Lord.
Earlier in the service, Pastor Tobi Enuha, sharing the Promise of the Week from Philippians 1:6 (Amplified Bible), emphasised God’s faithfulness to complete the work He has begun in the lives of believers. She highlighted two certainties: that God is actively working in them and that He is maturing them to become more like Jesus.
She further explained that believers can find freedom in Christ from fear, anger and depression because God is continually working to perfect them. Drawing from the Apostle Paul’s confidence in God’s faithfulness, she challenged the congregation to examine whether they shared the same conviction. She also cautioned against measuring God’s promises against personal timelines, noting that expectations about when things should happen can cause confidence in God to waver when events do not unfold as anticipated.
