The Good News is a Person

Pastor Tobi Enuha @ Sunday Service

In her message at the October 4 Sunday Service, Pastor Tobi Enuha explained that the greatest Good News is not a thing but a Person – Jesus Christ, adding that there is more to the Good News than God changing our personal circumstances.

Speaking from Isaiah 61:1 and Luke 4:17 – 19, she explained that God is the Author and Originator of the Good News, while Jesus Christ is its embodiment. She noted that Christ came to empower humanity to be reconciled to God and to enjoy fellowship with Him as Father and Friend. “God is the Author and Originator of the Good News, and we are its recipients,” she said.

She also cited Galatians 5:16 – 26, to say that the Good News brings liberty and deliverance from the power of sin, adding that when the Spirit of God takes precedence over the flesh, the believer, with the help of the Holy Spirit who dwells within, is empowered to live victoriously over fleshly influences throughout the journey of faith.

Pastor Tobi further emphasised that the Good News was part of God’s eternal plan long before mankind came into being. She noted that God, who knows the end from the beginning, is best positioned to lead His people into the fullness of the Good News.

She therefore admonished the congregation, in line with Apostle Paul’s exhortation, not to return to the bondage of sin after receiving the Good News, but rather to cultivate and deepen their relationship with the Holy Spirit in their walk of faith and to share the Good News with others.

Earlier in the service, Pastor Toluwani Odukoya encouraged the congregation with the Promise of the Week from Genesis 28:3 – 4, declaring God’s promise of abundant blessings upon them. She assured them of God’s unwavering support, as He blesses those who bless His children and stands against those who oppose them. She emphasised that God’s intention is not merely to bless His people, but to bless them abundantly.
