Pastor Jimmy Odukoya @ Father’s Day Sunday Service

The June 21 Father’s Day Sunday service at The Fountain of Life Church was marked by a special celebration service in honour of fathers and father figures within the church community. The occasion featured heartfelt tributes from the Children’s Church, recognition awards presented to the oldest and youngest fathers in attendance, a powerful worship and thanksgiving session led by the men, and a special presentation to Pastor Jimmy Odukoya.

In his Father’s Day message, Pastor Jimmy Odukoya addressed two significant challenges many men face: the fire of provision and the fire of pain. Speaking on provision, he noted that many men often define themselves by their ability to provide. However, drawing from Genesis 1:27 and Matthew 3:17, he emphasised that Scripture places identity before responsibility, reminding men that their true worth is rooted in their identity as sons of God rather than in their achievements, possessions, or earning capacity. “There is a difference between responsibility and identity. Responsibility is something you carry; identity is who you are. Identity comes before responsibility,” he said.

Pastor Jimmy also spoke about the dangers of comparison and anxiety about the future, encouraging men to remain focused on their God-given assignment and trust God’s provision for their lives, citing Galatians 6:4 and Matthew 6:31. In his words, “Comparison creates unnecessary pressure. God has never called you to provide like another man but to be a good steward with what he has entrusted you with.”

Addressing the fire of pain, he acknowledged the realities of heartbreak, disappointment, and helplessness that many men experience, urging them to find refuge in God (Psalm 46:2–3) and resist allowing pain to become a source of condemnation (Romans 8:1).

He thereafter urged men to trust God through life’s challenges and confidently embrace their identity in Christ. “Pain that isn’t surrendered to God becomes poison, but healing begins when it’s brought before Him,” he said.

Earlier in the service, Bishop Omoregbe Imade encouraged the congregation with the Promise of the Week from Proverbs 4:18, reminding them that God has deposited His light in every one of His children. He emphasised that this light is not meant to be hidden or confined but is to shine continually for all to see. According to him, allowing their light to shine should extend to every area of their lives, influencing their homes, workplaces, communities, and relationships. “Our light is supposed to shine everywhere we go, not only in the church,” he said.
