Pastor Jimmy Odukoya ministered on the message titled Light Bearers during the August 2 Sunday service, challenging the congregation to embrace their calling as the carriers of God’s light in a world filled with darkness. Drawing from Isaiah 60:1 and Matthew 5:14–16, he reminded the congregation that God is the Source, Sustainer, and Giver of light, while believers are called to reflect His glory wherever they are. “God is the source of all light. You and I were created to shine the light of the SON,” he declared.
Emphasising that this light is meant to shine beyond the walls of the church, Pastor Jimmy encouraged the congregation to remove every “basket” of fear, shame, and distraction that hinders their witness. “You are the light of the world, not of the church. Look for dark places in government, culture, entertainment, media, education, business, medicine, and family, and shine,” he urged.
Using the imagery of the lamp, oil, and wick, he explained that the believer is the lamp, the oil represents the Holy Spirit, and the fire symbolises God’s presence, adding that no one can truly be a light bearer without the continual infilling of the Holy Spirit, as their light is sustained through prayer, God’s Word, and a life of daily fellowship with Him. “If you want to shine the light of God, you have to be in His presence. You cannot be light without the Holy Spirit,” he noted.
Earlier in the service, Pastor Tobi Enuha shared the Promise of the Week from Luke 21:15, encouraging the congregation to remain bold in their faith despite opposition. She explained that God’s promise of wisdom and utterance is evidence of His abiding presence and reminded believers that they have been called to stand for Christ in every season. She further urged the church to know God’s Word personally so that, when faced with life’s challenges, they would be equipped to speak with wisdom, confidence, and unwavering faith.
