The Death of Me

Pastor Jimmy Odukoya @ Sunday service

Pastor Jimmy Odukoya while ministering at the November 2 Sunday service, emphasised the spiritual transformation that occurs when an individual fully embraces life in Christ. He emphasized that the Christian walk demands a conscious death to self, which is a deliberate letting go of the old nature to allow the new life in Christ Jesus to flourish.

Speaking from Ephesians 2:12–13, Hebrews 9:22, Galatians 2:20, Romans 8:6–8, and 2 Corinthians 5:17, Pastor Jimmy explained that Christ did not come to modify or improve the old self, but to completely replace it.

According to him, a believer’s true identity must be rooted in Christ and His finished work on the cross. Through crucifixion with Christ, believers learn dependence, submission, and total surrender to God’s perfect will.

He also stated that Jesus’ sacrifice through His blood grant believers access to divine fellowship, adding that identifying with Christ, as believers, should never be a source of fear or shame. “The old self must willingly die for the new life in Christ to manifest,” he said.

Pastor Odukoya concluded his message by reminding the congregation that no one can walk in God’s perfect will while still holding on to personal desires. To truly experience the fullness of divine purpose, the old self must die so that Christ can live and work through the believer.

Earlier in the service, Pastor Toluwani Odukoya shared the Promise for the Week from John 15:16, reminding the congregation that their true identity comes from God before any nationality. She encouraged them to see themselves as trees that continually bear fruit. “Planted on purpose, for purpose, and to bear fruit always,” she stated.
