Pastor Jimmy Odukoya @ Sunday service

It was a solemn moment of reflection at the March 17 Sunday service as Pastor Jimmy Odukoya continued with his message series, Mercy Me.

Speaking on what he titled “The Cost of Mercy,” the senior pastor cited John 3:16, Isaiah 53, Luke 22:39, Deuteronomy 25:1, Matthew 27:46, and Psalm 22 to explain how Jesus expressed God’s attributes despite being rejected as a divine being.

In an effort to get the church to understand the pain a father experiences when he loses a child, Pastor Jimmy led the church to watch a touching video that portrayed a glimpse of how God might have felt when He had to allow His only Son to die just so humanity could be saved from death. The video showed a father’s emotional, mental, and physical pain of having to watch his only son die trying to save the lives of passengers on board a train that was headed for disaster. The short video simply illustrated how God paid a heavy and costly price for humanity to receive mercy and eternal life at the expense of His only Son’s life.

Pastor Jimmy went ahead to state that Jesus also suffered pain and grief in choosing to die for us so that we might be saved. He passionately narrated how Jesus was crucified and the excruciating physical pain he endured to redeem humanity as a payment for mercy. He elaborated on how Jesus, despite the immense pain He endured, humbled Himself by willingly sacrificing His life on the cross for the sake of humanity. According to him, “the cost of mercy was a great one, and Jesus knew this. He had the power to back down, but He chose to die nonetheless.”

He emphasised that everyone was bought with the priceless blood of Christ and reminded his listeners that God willingly sacrificed His only son to grant us mercy and provide us with the freedom to approach the Father confidently.

He said, “No matter what you are going through, He sees, He knows, and He has paid the ultimate price for mercy.”

SEEK HIS PRESENCE

Pastor Jimmy Odukoya @Thursday Showers

The March 14 Thursday Showers service was a blend of spirit-filled supplications as well as soul-lifting and undiluted praises. The senior pastor, Jimmy Odukoya, was God’s servant for the service. While addressing the worshippers on the need to always seek God’s presence and His will over their expectations, the clergy said that believers should not come before the Lord with their agenda and list but to come to Him with an open heart to receive from Him.

In his words, “A lot of times, we come into the presence of the Lord with our own agenda and our own list. And most times, too, we come to the Lord’s presence either to receive or to ask. But we just have to let God do what He wants to do.”

He continued, “Truth is, God knows our desires and our hearts. He knows who He has made us and what He wants to do with our lives. Like Jacob, God wants to change our name and give us His blessings.”

Speaking from Psalm 24:1-3, 2 Samuel 6, and Genesis 32:24, the senior pastor stated that focusing on God and His presence should be the central focus of a believer, not material things or money. He added that focusing on God will make one think like God, making it easy to do His will.

He said, “You want your life to change? Let your prayer point from now on be, ‘that I may know Him.’ Because when you know Him, you will know His heart in every situation. Then, you will become like your Father in heaven and literally begin to see heaven here on earth.”

He thereafter urged them to seek God’s presence, as that is the foundation of their blessings. “Ask God to bless you with His presence. His presence makes all the difference. His presence is better than your needs and wants,” he urged.
