Help Has a Name

Pastor Jimmy Odukoya @ Sunday service

It was a powerful and deeply moving Resurrection Sunday at the April 5 Sunday service as Pastor Jimmy Odukoya delivered a life-transforming message titled “Help Has a Name,” a rich reflection on the finished work of Christ. Drawing from relatable personal experiences, he painted a vivid picture of what it means to truly need help, highlighting that while help may come in different forms, the greatest expression of help is surrendering one’s life for others.

Pastor J further brought the congregation into a profound understanding of humanity’s helpless state, as revealed in Romans 5:6-12. According to him, sin and death had held mankind captive, with no human solution in sight. Yet, in the midst of this hopelessness, God did something extraordinary; He didn’t just send help; He became Help. Through Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh, God stepped into our reality, laying aside His glory to redeem humanity. Christ became the ultimate substitute, offering Himself for the ungodly and restoring what was lost.

With striking depth, Pastor Jimmy described the fullness of Christ’s sacrifice as a holistic death. Jesus endured emotional anguish as the Man of Sorrows, mental torment under unbearable pressure, physical suffering through the crucifixion, and spiritual separation—all for the sake of humanity. But the story did not end there. On the third day, He rose in victory, conquering death and securing eternal life for all who believe.

He concluded the message by affirming to his listeners that Jesus’ death and resurrection paved the way for the Holy Spirit who is our ever-present Helper, adding that they are not without help because help has a name

Pastor Toluwani Odukoya, while exhorting the congregation earlier in the service, drew from Deuteronomy 15:6, the Promise of the Week, to remind the congregation of the power of the new covenant established through the blood of Jesus. She emphasised that through Christ’s finished work, they are not only recipients of blessings but also carriers of a new identity in Christ and authority in His name.

She declared with conviction that every spiritual blessing now belongs to them and that they have unhindered access to all that God has provided, whether physical, emotional, or financial.
