Pastor Jimmy Odukoya @ Sunday service
Pastor Jimmy Odukoya, during his message at the October 26 Sunday service, emphasised the importance and efficacy of the righteousness of God imputed on believers. Speaking from Psalms 37:23, Romans 3:10-12, and Romans 6:16-18, he noted that the believer’s steps are ordered by the Lord, not because of their own righteousness but by the imputed righteousness of Jesus on them.
He also cited Romans 4:3-6, 2 Corinthians 5:21, to differentiate between imputed righteousness and imparted righteousness. According to him, imputed righteousness is obtained through faith in Christ Jesus and cannot be laboured for, while imparted righteousness is lived out through transformation. “The quick and easy way to attain righteousness is to believe,” he said.
The clergy also noted that as long as anyone believes, accepts and remains in Jesus Christ, such a person is completely owned by God and is bound to serve, not by coercion but because they are owned by God. “Everyone living is serving something, either yourself or God. You are either a slave to sin or to God,” he stated.
Addressing the fear of not wanting to surrender one’s life to Christ, Pastor J reiterated that true freedom is not the absence of a master but being enslaved to the right one, adding that Jesus Christ is the righteous Master anyone can surrender their lives to. In his words, “He is the one who created you; anything you do outside of Him is not freedom. He knows what’s best for you.”
He concluded by saying that God’s goal is not to make His children a better version of themselves but a living reflection of Jesus, adding that, like a professional sculptor, He uses obedience, trial and experiences to mould and form them, freeing them from every impurity and excess that is not of Christ. “The more you obey Him, the more you are transformed. As your mind begins to align with Him, He begins to make a change in you,” he said.
Pastor Toluwani Odukoya, earlier in the service, encouraged the congregation with the promise of the week from John 14:1, urging everyone to put their full faith in God. She reminded believers to redirect the energy often spent looking up to man and instead focus it on God. “You need to get to a point in your walk with God where you conclude that you believe. If God has said it, He would do it,” she said.
She emphasised that trusting God is not a one-time act but a continuous journey of faith, urging everyone never to get tired of believing in Him.
