Pastor Jimmy Odukoya @ Sunday service

Pastor Jimmy Odukoya, while ministering at the April 19 Sunday service, taught on how God helps believers, emphasising that many Christians often speak about help as though it is something distant or yet to come, whereas in Christ, help is not pending; it is already present. “As a believer, you’re not looking for help; you are the helped,” he said.

He went on to highlight three major ways God helps believers. First, he explained that God places help within the believer through the Holy Spirit. This means that believers are not limited to human understanding, as they carry a divine Helper within them who guides and directs their lives.

Secondly, he taught that God provides help for believers through His Word. According to him, the Word of God serves as light and guidance in every situation. Referencing Hebrews 4:16, he emphasised that grace is always available and sufficient, and that help is embedded within that grace. He noted that grace is not passive but actively equips believers to navigate life’s challenges.

He also spoke about the believer’s identity through sonship, referencing Matthew 7:7–9, and explained that believers have access to God as their Father. He encouraged believers to depend fully on God and to focus on declaring His Word rather than magnifying their problems when they come into His presence.

Furthermore, he stated that God reveals Himself to those who hunger for Him and that He gives wisdom generously to those who ask, as seen in James 1:5. He emphasised that divine insight is always available to believers.

Pastor Jimmy also highlighted that God surrounds believers with help by orchestrating circumstances and relationships. Referencing Romans 8:28, he explained that everything is working together for the believer’s good. However, he cautioned that believers must remain discerning, as God’s help may not always come in expected ways. He added that God can send people as coverings and may even use unlikely individuals, including unbelievers, to position believers for their destiny.

He concluded by affirming that believers must not live as though they are searching for help. Instead, they should embrace their identity in Christ, recognising that they are already helped, empowered, and sustained by God in every situation. “You can’t be a believer and be lost; if you are lost, you are not using your Counsellor,” he said.

The promise of the week was also shared earlier in the service by Pastor Toluwani Odukoya from Isaiah 22:22. She reiterated the authority and access believers have through Christ, declaring that no one can shut any door God opens, and any door He closes remains closed. This, she affirmed, is an assurance of divine control, positioning, and victory in every area of life.
