Pastor Jimmy Odukoya @ Sunday Service
In his message titled “Illumination 4G,” Pastor Jimmy Odukoya, at the August 30 Sunday Service, challenged believers to move beyond simply knowing that God has blessed them to recognising, understanding and walking in what they already carry. Drawing from Ephesians 1:17–19 and Isaiah 60:1, he reminded his listeners that the greater tragedy is not necessarily the absence of something, but the inability to recognise its value and make use of what God has already provided.
Exploring the Gs of Illumination, Pastor Jimmy began with the Giver – God, the Father of Glory, emphasising that the nature of the giver determines the nature of the gift. He explained that believers are carriers of God’s glory and light and that some things are not achieved through effort but are produced through encounter. He further taught that revelation comes through the Holy Spirit and the Word, cautioning his listeners to distinguish between divine revelation and divination, as revelation comes from God and carries His light.
He identified the second G of illumination as the Gift, which he noted comes as revelation, wisdom and knowledge. Using examples of Hagar in Genesis 21:19, Joseph and David, Pastor Jimmy explained that revelation is the unveiling of what God is showing, while wisdom provides the direction and process for acting on that revelation at the right time and in the right way. He described the deepest form of knowledge as knowing God Himself, rather than merely knowing what God can reveal about the future.
He therefore encouraged the congregation to deliberately engage with God through His Word, the Holy Spirit and prayer, including consistently praying Ephesians 1:17–18.
Earlier in the service, Pastor Tolu Odukoya shared the Promise for the Week, taken from John 14:13, with the congregation, emphasising that confidence in approaching God is rooted in a deep relationship with Him as Father through Jesus Christ. She further explained, from John 15:7, that knowing God and abiding in His Word give believers confidence to ask according to His will and to trust Him for answers. She thereafter encouraged them to pursue a deeper knowledge of God, approach Him with confidence and trust Him for answers that ultimately glorify His Son, Jesus Christ.
