In his message, “Light Conversations,” during the August 23 Sunday service, Pastor Jimmy Odukoya challenged the church to change how they respond to adversity, identity, and the future. Drawing from Genesis 1:1-3, he explained that when light first encountered darkness, God did not negotiate, debate or analyse it; He simply commanded, “Let there be light.” He added that believers need to stop magnifying their problems through constant meditation on them but instead respond to every form of darkness with the authority of God’s Word.
Speaking from Ephesians 5:8 and 1 Samuel 17:33 – 45, he discussed the four conversations of light with darkness, what is hidden, identity and the future, emphasising the need for spiritual revelation beyond natural intelligence. Using David’s encounter with Goliath and the example of Elisha’s servant, he showed that sometimes the problem is not the absence of help but the inability to see what God is doing. He encouraged believers to silence the voice of fear, fill their hearts with God’s Word and ask God for enlightened eyes to recognise possibilities and opportunities hidden within difficult situations.
He also said that believers are not merely people who have light but are light in the Lord. He encouraged them to reject labels imposed by their circumstances and align themselves with what God says about them. Pastor Jimmy told his listeners that they don’t need to manufacture light for their future or understand every step; they simply need to follow the One who holds the future, adding that Christ’s light has ultimately defeated darkness.
He therefore charged the church to stop magnifying trials above God’s truth, embrace their identity as light in the Lord, and trust Jesus through every season, knowing that every dark space, delay, limitation and fear can be interrupted by the light of God.
Earlier in the service, Pastor Bolaji Akinyemi encouraged the congregation with the promise of the week, taken from Proverbs 3:24, reminding them to look beyond temporary achievements and desires, focusing instead on the ultimate reward of a life that pleases God.
According to him, whether in their daily rest, the intimacy of marriage, or ultimately in death, they can live with the confidence that comes from walking with God, adding that they can lie down without fear and enjoy sweet sleep.
