Pastor Jimmy Odukoya @ Sunday service
Pastor Jimmy delivered a powerful message titled “The Water Walker,” drawn from Isaiah 43:2, emphasising God’s unwavering presence and commitment to His children even in life’s storms. He highlighted that the Israelites did not go around the waters but passed through them, showing that the “water” represented a necessary transition from bondage to freedom, from wilderness to promise, and from an old identity into a new one. It was a reminder that certain seasons are not to be avoided but walked through with God.
Expanding on this, Pastor Jimmy described water as both a gateway and a boundary line throughout Scripture. From Genesis 1:2, where the Spirit moved upon the waters, to Noah’s flood, which separated the righteous from the corrupt, to Moses being preserved through water, the pattern remains consistent. Elijah and Elisha’s crossing of the Jordan marked a moment of transformation, just as Naaman’s dipping brought restoration and a new identity. Even Jesus, in Matthew 3:16, entered the water as a man and emerged with the revelation of His Sonship, affirming that water symbolises transition, separation, and divine revelation.
Focusing on the theme of bondage and freedom, drawn from John 4:9–29, Pastor Jimmy explained that true freedom goes beyond physical movement or activity. Using the story of the woman at the well, he identified three forms of bondage: bondage to sin, where one becomes a slave to what they obey; bondage of the mind, described as an invisible prison shaped by limiting beliefs, fear, and the need for human approval; and bondage to religion, where legalistic practices replace true spiritual liberty.
He concluded by urging the congregation to release the past and fix their focus on Jesus.
Building on this atmosphere of faith, Pastor Toluwani, earlier in the service, shared the promise for the week from Numbers 23:23, declaring boldly to the congregation that no form of sorcery or opposition would prevail against them, reinforcing the assurance of divine protection and victory.
