“Shame to Double”

Pastor Jimmy Odukoya @ Sunday service

During the December 7 Sunday service, Pastor Jimmy Odukoya, while exhorting the congregation on the message titled “Shame to Double,” focused on the elevation believers receive through the Spirit of the Firstborn, who is Jesus Christ. He reminded the church of the power, privilege, and inheritance that come with their identity in Christ, drawing from Genesis 1:27–30, where man’s identity, purpose, and authority were first established.

Speaking from Genesis 2:25, Genesis 3:7-10, he further explained shame as a painful emotion of consciousness which builds its terrain, puts a distance between God and man, relocates, and shifts a person out of identity, relationship, and purpose. He also noted that shame builds its own terrain. “Shame creates hidden places, avoids vulnerability and accountability,” he said.

Also speaking about double portion, Pastor Jimmy read from Deuteronomy 21:16-17 to say that double portion is about identity and responsibility, restorative justice, and prophetic empowerment. Double is a sign of favour and fruitfulness.

He further read from Colossians 1:15, Romans 8:29, and Hebrews 1:2, to say that believers can walk from shame into double portion by living in the Firstborn, who is Jesus Christ. “We go from striving to abiding when we stay in Christ. He took his story and took your history; an exchange was seen.”

‎He continued to say that adversity is not proof that God has abandoned them. Using the biblical examples of Hannah and Joseph as recorded in 1 Samuel 1:1-5 and Genesis 39:21, he said that believers can still be favoured even in the face of adversity. “Sometimes God will give you favour in the midst of adversity to let you know that He is not through with you yet.

He therefore urged his listeners to trust God for the fulfilment of His promises over them. He declared, “In spite of everything the devil has thrown at you, you are walking out with double.”

Encouraging the congregation with the Promise of the Week earlier in the service, Pastor Toluwani read from Deuteronomy 15:6, reminding worshippers that every word and promise God has declared over them can still come to pass before the year ends.

She noted that when God blesses His people, the blessing is never for them alone, but meant to flow through them to others. She therefore urged the congregation to believe God’s promises and actively walk in them. In her words, “The strong men of nations will bow before you.”
