“GOD’S ABIDING PRESENCE”
...Pastor Taiwo Odukoya @Thursday Showers
Pastor Taiwo has reminded the church of the promise of the Lord Jesus to be with His own at all times. He made this reminder while addressing the congregation at the last Thursday Showers held on Thursday, February 9.
Drawing from Matthew 28:20b, he explained that this promise which Jesus made to His disciples over 2000 years ago remains applicable to all believers, in line with His never-failing covenant. The evidence in that statement, he observed, is that Jesus never lies; He remains forever the source of life and light for all.
Pastor Taiwo warned, however, that failure to see oneself as part of the people Jesus made this promise to amounts to ignorance of His Omnipresence. His presence, he added, is a guarantee against fear, noting that any attack against any believer is indirectly against Jesus.
He emphasised the need to trust the Lord whose covenant is everlasting, and recalled the example of Apostle Paul who was not part of the twelve but nevertheless partook in the promise just because he believed (Acts 18:10, and 23:11). According to him, Paul demonstrated this faith (chapter 27:20-26) because he was convinced of the Lord’s unfailing presence.
He concluded the exhortation by encouraging his listeners to form the habit of thinking about the future, instead of regretting their past, because “He is the future and He is with you always”. He prayed for the members for understanding of His presence.
“HOLD ON TO JESUS”
...Pastor Taiwo on Sunday
The anointing of yesterday is definitely not sufficient for today’s challenges. This point was stressed by Pastor Taiwo last Sunday while ministering on the subject of faith. He x-rayed Paul’s evaluation of what the New King James Version refers to as “a great High Priest” – Jesus, who remains our intercessor (Hebrews 4:14-15).
Jesus, he stressed, is the Ultimate High Priest clearly identified through His unalloyed compassion for the apparent weaknesses of the saints. He warned believers to discountenance any isolationist approach to the Kingdom battle as the cooperation of all is recommended by the scriptures. He illustrated this point with the natural cooperation among members of a good football team.
Very significantly, believers must sustain their efforts to overcome, realizing that Jesus never gives up on them and has already paid the price. This, he stressed, is clearly conveyed in Isaiah 53: “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.”
Pastor Taiwo reminded his listeners that it is no longer the preserve of priests to enter into the Holy of Holies, but that of every saint. Each believer must therefore take full advantage and draw closer to the Lord.
