"MANAGING GROWTH”

In the early Church, as the disciples were multiplying, there was a complaint that the widows were neglected in the daily distribution of food. In addressing the problem, the twelve summoned the numerous disciples and asked them to appoint seven men of good reputation, filled with the Holy Spirit and wisdom (Acts 6, 7).

Last Thursday, examining the problems that come with multiplication, Pastor Taiwo pointed out that each time there is multiplication, disagreements are bound to occur. However, every form of conflict requires wisdom to manage.

Likening the situation to the present day, Pastor Taiwo stated that the mentality of an average African is to carry his/her god around. As new converts, they find it difficult to trust God because of their background. Thus it is the responsibility of the disciples to nurture them in order for the young converts not to return to their gods. In nurturing them, studying the Word is very important because it keeps them in constant check.

Pastor Taiwo stated that when we pray for increase, we should not always forget to ask for wisdom to handle it because “every human problem is a wisdom problem.”

 “BE FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT”

No matter the exploits of our yester years, we must endeavor to make a better mark today. Also, irrespective of our today’s achievements, it is our duty to leave better footprints tomorrow. Charging the church to live in the consciousness of the above last Sunday, Pastor Taiwo told the congregation that enduring achievement in the life of a believer is possible only within the liberty offered by the Holy Spirit. Continuing with the analysis, which he began last Thursday, of the difficulties confronting the early Church, he recalled from the events recorded in Acts chapter 6 that the early apostles were fully conscious of the need for wisdom and the filling of the Holy Spirit. Hence, when it was time to appoint deacons, the yardstick was that the candidates must be of good repute, filled with wisdom and of the Holy Spirit.

He spoke of Stephen as a reference point because anywhere he was mentioned, the testimony was that he was a man full of wisdom and of the Holy Spirit.

Pastor Taiwo also cited the empowerment of Peter by the Holy Spirit even after he had denied and deserted Jesus. He, therefore, enjoined every believer desirous of making a difference, like Stephen, to seek wisdom and be constantly filled with the Holy Spirit.
