Promise for the week: - - Zephaniah 3 : 16 - 1716. In that day it will be said to Jerusalem: 17. "The LORD your God is in your midst, NKJV News June 6 - 11, 2010
Rather than offer solutions, worry often worsens every situation. Hence, Jesus warned in Matthew 6:25-34: "Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?” The above command was the basis of Pastor Taiwo’s admonition to the church at the last session of Thursday Showers. In a message entitled “Encourage Yourself,” he enjoined the congregation not to be discouraged for whatever reason. According to him, the Bible passage above reminds us that we should not worry for anything because our Father in Heaven knows that we need all these things, and will supply them in His own time. He recalled stories of several people who walked the divine path and never regretted their actions. Pastor Taiwo wondered what our worries are all about, reminding the congregation of the Lord’s injunction for us to pray always without fail (Luke 18:1). It is imperative, he stated, for us to seek Him in our travails instead of wallowing in self pity. Pastor Taiwo charged the church to allow the Lord fight their battles as vengeance belongs to Him. Details of this message are available in the Tape Shop.
In continuation of his message series, “Encourage Yourself”, Pastor Taiwo, last Sunday, recalled the parable of the wicked judge (Luke 18) who had no respect for God and man, but hearkened to the continual pleading of the widow because of her tenacity. Speaking on the need to persevere in prayer, Pastor Taiwo used the case of the widow as evidence that God is willing to yield if we persistently make our case known to Him. He urged everyone to brace up and come out of self pity. Like he did at the Thursday Showers, he cited Philippians 4:6 where Paul declared by the unction of the Holy Spirit: “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” The message, he explained, was not a call to live in denial but to practice the principles of the Kingdom. He also narrated the story of Jehoshaphat as recorded in 2 Chronicles 20. Although Jehoshaphat feared initially when confronted by the powerful coalition of Ammon, Moab and Mt. Seir, he quickly remembered his covenant position and sailed to victory through praises. God rewarded him with great spoils of war. Pastor Taiwo recognised that fear is natural with man, but that the ability to quickly recover and take bold steps in the direction of victory is what makes the difference. Pastor Taiwo’s messages are available on tapes and CDs at The Fountain of Life Church Tape Shop.
