The Prisons Department is the Prisons’ Outreach of the Fountain of Life Church, Ilupeju, Lagos. The purpose and vision of the department is to minister to the spiritual, physical, emotional, and material needs of prison inmates.
ACTIVITIES
The department holds monthly ministrations in all the five prisons in Lagos State. These ministrations involve the following:
- Preaching the word
- Holding bible studies
- Providing free legal aid
- Holding health talk
- Providing toiletries for inmates’ use
- Provide travel assistance to facilitate reunification of inmates and their families.
- Holding love feasts
- Holding variety shows
- Annual musical concert
ACCOMPLISHMENT
Among the many accomplishments recorded by the department, since inception, are:
- Through the department’s free legal aid program, several inmates regained their freedom.
- Scholarship for 3 inmates into National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN)
- Complete set-up of library for the NOUN centre at Maximum Prison.
- Fumigation of Female, Ikoyi, Badagry and Medium Prisons
- Free cervical cancer screening at Female Prison, Kirikiri.
- Free diabetes and blood pressure test at Maximum Prison, Kirikiri.
- Free HIV screening at Ikoyi Prison, Ikoyi.
- Rehabilitation of some ex-inmates.
- Repair of borehole at Medium Prison, Kirikiri.
- Renovation of roof at Female Prison, Kirikiri.
- Supply of mattresses to Badagry Prison, Kirikiri
- Supply of drugs to Clinics at Ikoyi, Badagry and Maximum Prisons
- Provision of medicine cabinet for Ikoyi Prison
- Repair of Maximum Prison’s ambulance
- Repair of generator at Female Prison
- Supply of text books and past question papers to inmates sitting for external examinations (WAEC, NECO etc.) in all the prisons.
