Fountain Urban Outreach Centres In Lagos

The Missions Department has three major outreach regions in Lagos, namely;

  • Oshodi Region
  • Onipanu/Fadeyi Region
  • Grace Springs Boys Home, Ikorodu

OSHODI REGION- The Oshodi outreach comprises of four arms:

Oshodi Children Centre- caters for the children in the community.

Oshodi Abule Centre- ministers to youths (boys and girls) and adults in the area.

Oshodi Underbridge Centre- holds Sunday worship services under the bridge, targeting young boys living around the open area.

Oshodi Young Adult Boys Centre- essentially for adults living and working around the motor parks.

  • OSHODI CHILDREN (6months -9yr olds)

Oshodi children outreach center is located in the suburb of Oshodi called Abule Mosafejo. This location constitute the home for teenage girls and young adult women who are single parents and also a cluster of very poor family making out a living in the slum.

A visit to this location showed children running around the streets alone without much attention from the single mothers or guardians.

The outreach started in July 2009 as an off-shoot of Oshodi Girls outreach which started in 2007 but could not continue because the girls were not co-operating.

It was discovered during ministrations there that many of the single girls that attended the service came with their children for the service. The age of the children ranged from 6 months to 3years. This became a concern as the children worship with us but could not understand the preaching. We also found out that some of the children were loitering around and disturbing the fellowship.

This necessitated our immediate decision to gather the children and fellowship with them separately. Upon commencement of the fellowship, the children’s attendance rose from 25 to 56 every Sunday. The children have gone out on evangelism around the street several times with some of their parents joining us to reach out to the community.

The aim of this outreach is to bring the children together and to teach them the way of the Lord and thereby make them better citizens of the society so that they will not follow the wrong way

  • OSHODI ABULE (BOYS/GIRLS 9 -21yr olds)

The outreach started around October 2009 to cater for the needs of the numerous teenage boys and girls in Abule Mosafejo, Oshodi after the department carried out a crusade in the area.

The outreach also caters for adult boys who assembled every Sunday to play football in one of the secondary schools nearby in Oshodi.

The team observed the need for many of these idle boys to engage in vocations hence the department has requested for a vocational training as currently offered by Grace Springs Vocational Centre.

They are being mentored to the extent that some of them now attend The Fountain of Life’s Youth Church as well as attending the Church’s programmes such as Discovery for Men, Thursday Showers and night vigils.

  • OSHODI UNDERBRIDGE (9-15yr olds)

In 1999, the members of Missions departed started visiting Oshodi for evangelism. The Oshodi underbridge outreach is the fore- runner of missions work in Oshodi area. ?The outreach came up as a result of the Senior Pastor’s request for the church to reach out to its immediate environments (Oshodi). The first gathering was a crusade organized in the year 2000 by the department for the street urchins (Area Boys) who had become a source of concern for the Senior Pastor due to the terror they were unleashing on the people, including church members living and passing through Oshodi. At the crusade, over 50 of the street urchins and market women came out for Christ.

?On the following week, the meeting started at the junction leading to Oshodi Motor Park before moving to a location under the bridge with about 10 boys.?The work is focused on the boys being restored back to their families or taken to Grace Springs Home in Ikorodu for rehabilitation.

  • OSHODI YOUNG ADULT BOYS (15-28yr olds)

This outreach started in March 2007 in a class room of the Government secondary school Oshodi, now known as Ilupeju grammar school in Oshodi very close to Oshodi Motor Park.?It was a group of adult boys who refused to fellowship with the younger children under the bridge that made up the Oshodi Young Adult Boys.

Most of these boys in this age range came down from their home town to fend for themselves being mostly apprentices looking for sustenance to start up their own vocations.

Some of them had left school because of hardness and stubbornness of heart even resisting punishment at home.

Presently, the outreach has moved to railway line in Oshodi after the school authority stopped all gatherings in the school premises. A steady and permanent place of meeting is the biggest challenge of this outreach. They are about 15 in number.

THE ONIPANU OUTREACH (MAINLY FOR DRUG ADDICTS)

The outreach started with a burden in the heart of the Senior Pastor to reach out to drug addicts that have made Onipanu/Fadeyi, a dreadful area.

The Missions department was mandated to evangelize and rehabilitate these drug addicts. The work started at Akorolunfoyo Street in Fadeyi in 2004 where groups of adult males and females were found living together bound with the habit of using hard drugs such as marijuana.

Evangelism started in earnest every Saturday evening and later transformed to an outreach centre. As time went by, the department rented a place of worship which served as a temporary worship centre to extensively cater for the spiritual needs of these peculiar set of people.

Over the years, the team has won converts and sent some of them on rehabilitation to CADAM in Lekki.

GRACE SPRINGS BOYS HOME (Boys from 9 – 23 yrs old)

This is the offspring of Missions work in Oshodi, where children rescued from the streets of Oshodi are rehabilitated. It started fully in June 19th 2003.

The Missions team goes there every Sunday to fellowship with them and to help shape their character through the teaching of the Believers class curriculum and bible study outlines. This helps bring them to the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ and thereby becoming better citizens in the society.
