The Grace Springs Rehabilitation Home is a Non-Governmental Organization. We cater for street urchin and destitute to give them a “Hope and a Future”.
The home took off in 2004 with 50 boys. Earlier in 2002 before the Grace Spring Rehabilitation Home fully began the rehabilitation campaign, Child Life Line Centre, Ibeshe, Ikorodu, run by Mrs. Marion was approached to accommodate 7 children picked up from Oshodi. The Grace Springs supported the centre with upkeep allowance every month.
In 2003, 20 boys were taken to some boarding schools in Otta, Ogun State. The schools admitted them on scholarship upon realising that these were people whose parents were not ready to support. Worse still, the boys did not want to return home due to societal prejudice.
In 2004 when the need arose for a home in order to respond to the increased number of the children, a bungalow was rented in Ikorodu. Consequently, the founder of the Home, Pastor Taiwo Odukoya ordered the relocation of the boys from Otta to Ikorodu. Some of the boys in Child life Centre resisted movement. Those who were ready were relocated alongside some boys from Oshodi. Thereafter, some 20 of the boys returned to the streets. Ten others from Oshodi joined. Twenty were reconciled after a lot of counselling. Out of the number of boys reconciled to their parents was a 12 year old boy who was taken back to his parents in Porto Novo. In 2005, one boy graduated with an OND certificate from the School of Survey, Oyo State. The young man eased himself out of the home and has been on his own ever since.
In 2009, five boys graduated from the secondary school, while two gained admissions to Yaba College of Technology (Business Administration) and University of Ado Ekiti (Psychology).
Three of the graduates are working presently, out of whom two are seeking admission to the University while one is to write his school certificate examination in September. Recently, five boys wrote their JAMB and Post UME, and are currently preparing for their GCE exams by September. These boys will be graduated from the home and reconciled with their parents at the end of October. The remaining 14 boys are in different classes, one in Primary, 4 in JSS and 9 in SSS.
These less privilege individual are neglects of the society, who are the products of broken homes, polygamous family, child abuse, single parenthood and poverty. They are picked randomly from different locations, especially from Oshodi under bridge.
The purpose of rehabilitating them is to reconcile them back with their parents/relatives/guardians.
More so, we empower them with vocational skills and personal development programs.
On the other hand, in case of rejection by relatives and loss of contact, GSRH, provides housing, clothing, feeding and educational/vocational opportunities for such youth until they reach recommended age in the home or are graduates of Senior Secondary Certificate (SSCE).
